This morning, it hit me.  I woke up to my crying baby boy and immediately began to soothe him.  There is nothing that I would not do to protect him and make sure that he is completely taken care of.  This is my first Good Friday as a father and it brings new meaning and perspective to the cross and what this day memorializes.  I am grieving God the Father’s loss of His Son this morning.  I could not give as God gave on Good Friday.

Matthew 27:46:
About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?”—which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

May we reflect today on the sacrifice of Christ and the sacrifice of a father.  Here is a hymn that I wrote in Mongolia, looking at the Father’s gift to us.

Jesus Christ For Love Was Given

Jesus Christ for love was given
To a world scorn by sin
Jesus Christ, the begotten
Son of God and man

God the Father gave His Son
For all the world to see
The generous, abundant gift
Of Life eternally

Jesus Christ for love was given
A voice to sing salvations song
Jesus Christ, heavens anthem
Hear the Savior’s call

For He desires no man to die
But every child come
To tune their hearts and join the song
Believing in His love

Jesus Christ for love has given
What no thief nor thing can steal
Jesus Christ, He the Treasure
He our hopes fulfilled

All the riches one can earn
While toiling on the earth
Are dust compared to what is gained
In Christ and through the cross

Jesus Christ for love was given
Humbly to His death He came
Jesus Christ, Now high and lifted
Name above all names

Praise the God who gave it all
Revealed Himself in love
Praise the true Messiah King
Christ the Only Son

I would write a thousand songs
If He could hear just one
To sing a song of gratefulness
For Christ and for His love
